SJHS MISSION

Philosophy

Saint Joseph High School is a four-year Catholic high school for young women, located in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ).  The culturally diverse student body is primarily composed of those who plan to attend college, as well as those who will choose to complete their formal education upon graduation.  The faculty is comprised of lay personnel, sisters, and priests who collaborate in the holistic formation of each student.

The school's philosophy is founded on Catholic values as revealed through the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.  The faith community of Saint Joseph High School, inspired by the traditions of the Sisters of St.

Joseph of Carondelet, shares in the mission to build Christ's kingdom of justice, love and peace through the charism of unity and reconciliation.  A thorough understanding and practice of our faith is essential to the development of the whole person, and Saint Joseph High School affirms the importance of family life as fundamental to teaching and preserving Catholic values.  Saint Joseph High School respects and promotes the parents/guardians as the primary educators of their daughter.  To assist the family, the administration, faculty and staff reflect the qualities that exemplify the values of a Catholic community and the CSJ philosophy of serving the "dear neighbor." Their goal is to encourage each young woman in her personal exploration of the Catholic faith as she experiences it in her school, home, church, and social community.  The curriculum is directed towards the integration of our Catholic faith into all aspects of the students' lives.

The faculty and staff of Saint Joseph High School are strongly committed to academic excellence built on sound contemporary pedagogy appropriate to each discipline.  Both parents/guardians and faculty/staff prepare students for life-long learning by providing a college preparatory curriculum, as well as opportunities in life skills.  Further, the school provides opportunities to enhance the moral and intellectual development of each student by offering a variety of co-curricular activities that embrace the importance of cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic diversity and that promote spiritual growth.

Saint Joseph High School acknowledges the dignity, value and uniqueness of each student.  The school is committed to enabling each young woman to become "all of which woman is capable" and to view herself as a positive force that contributes to the global community in "a spirit of excellence, tempered by gentleness, peace and joy."
