PHYSICAL EDUCATION / HEALTH

In accordance with the philosophy of Saint Joseph High School, the Physical Education Department believes that in addition to teaching physical skills, it should strive to develop Christian attitudes among students so they may develop as healthy individuals in the midst of an automated complex society.


Goals and Objectives
1. Encourages the development and display of good sportsmanship and teamwork through the practice of group relationship.
2. Fosters in the student an increasing interest in recreational activities and promotes physical fitness and healthy choices through physical activity, dance interpretation, and the use of basic knowledge of the body system.
3. Aids each student in fulfilling her own physical potential.
4. Fosters Christian behavior through the example set forth by the teachers and through disciplinary reproval whenever necessary.
5. Understand the facts about human sexuality, drug abuse and the moral guidelines of the church and use these in making wise decisions in both her adolescent and adult life
6. To develop problem-solving strategies
a. By the adoption of textbooks which include standardized test practice
b. By asking open-ended questions promoting discovery
c. By using co-operative learning
