CURRENT JESTERS

“Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present”.
-B. Olantunji
Whatever mistake you made last year is in the past. If you did not get the grade you wanted or if you had drama with friends, know that the past is history. If you are scared about the future, know that you are not alone. Not knowing what the future will hold is a scary thing, but the bright side about it is knowing that your actions in the present can dictate your future. As I unwrap my present, I find opportunities for me to grow and shape my future. That is why today truly is a gift. The present is our chance to start fresh…
Hello and welcome back Jesters! With the new school year here, I admit that I do miss summer vacation. Although the long days at the beach and the carefree bike rides around the city were nice, it’s time to switch gears and welcome back the school year with optimism.
For the class of 2015, this year should be an exciting one. Not only will it be your first year of high school, but it will be your first year as a Saint Joseph Jester! I remember my freshman year. I did not know anyone entering the school. I was nervous and afraid. Once I joined activities however, I got to know more people. Being involved really helped me become comfortable with my environment. So I encourage you freshman to join clubs, play sports, and participate in activities. Once you find your niche, that place where you belong, your experience at Saint Joseph will truly be memorable.
To the Kermits who have just finished their freshman year, I bet you are all excited to finally be sophomores. Although sophomore year will prove to be more difficult than freshman year, I am sure you are up for the challenge. You have many things to be excited about. Not only do you have school dances to look forward to, but you also have sophomore lock-in which I guarantee will be the highlight of your year.
Pooh Bears, you are finally upperclasswomen! In a couple of months you will be receiving your junior rings to officially mark you as one. In the symbolic ring ceremony, you will walk out in your beautiful dresses and assume your roles as juniors. In the spring, you will compete against the Mickeys in powder puff. Who will win, the Pooh Bears or the Mickeys?
The dawning of this new school year also ushers in a new era of leadership at Saint Joseph High School. This year, Mickeys, you have more responsibilities now that you are all seniors. Although you have more benefits and perks, you still have to set a good example to the underclassmen. To fit into your hectic schedule are activities like Senior Luau, Senior Seminar, Prom, Senior Brunch, Graduation… The events are endless. With your red attire, I hope you are ready to embrace your senior privileges and enjoy your last year as a jester!
Although the start of the new school year may mean going back to the routine of weekend homework and endless projects, it really is a chance for us to students to start fresh. The present gives us an opportunity to reflect on our past and grow. Remember: we have the ability to direct our future. By striving to be our best, we can be the best of the best, and become all of which woman is capable.
