POWDER PUFF PARENT/GUARDIAN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Any junior or senior parents who would like to volunteer to be a team parent, a coach, or a game first aide for powder puff may receive service hours. There will be a mandatory meeting on January 18 at 5:00 pm. Parents volunteering will need to have a copy of their fingerprints and have gone through the VIRTUS training. If they have not gone through the training, there will be a training session after the meeting. Seniors will be practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Juniors will be practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 pm beginning January 26. The game will be on Friday, March 5 at 7:00 pm. Copies of both forms need to be turned in before attending the first practice.
SJHS CDC H1N1 Flu Guidelines
Please be aware that we are working to be in total compliance with the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and Archdiocese of Los Angeles recommendations for managing the pandemic H1N1 flu. The guidelines suggested can be found on CDC website. We will continue to keep our families informed of SJHS policies in this regard.

SJHS PARENTS
Parents are vital to Saint Joseph High School. Therefore, we have two ways in which the school invites parents/guardians to become partners with the school in the education of their daughters:
FONTBONNE CIRCLE
This organization meets quarterly February 7th and April 10th. The organization's primary goal is to support the total school program through fundraising efforts. All parents are members, and are encouraged to attend these meetings. The dates of all meetings are noted in the school calendar provided to each SJHS family during book buying days. Attendance equals one parent volunteer hour per family.
The PFJSO coordinates several parent events throughout the year in which SJHS family and friends are invited to attend and volunteer for (for information, please contact the office of Institutional Advancement at 562-925-5073 x125):
Mardi Gras
February 21, 2009
Each family received one Mardi Gras admissions ticket with their back to school guidance packet. Additional event information, including purchasing of tickets will be available in December 2008.
Parent Education Evenings
The guidance department offers parent educational evenings throughout the school year. Please see the school calendar for specific class level evenings and schoolwide parent educational opportunities.
Volunteer Program
Although parents and guardians are required to volunteer 20 hours of volunteer service each year, it is the school’s experience that once parents have met other families and have satisfied the required 20 hours they will want to work more. The volunteer program is a vehicle for parents/guardians to become involved in their daughter's school. The school needs parents, and the students need their parents to be involved. Volunteer hour opportunities are available throughout the calendar year. However, for each academic year, and for accounting purposes, volunteer hours must be completed before registration for the following school year.
