Student Testimonials

What do you like most about Saint Joseph High School?

"I don't have to do my makeup or my hair when I go to school, but, best of all, I like the fact that everything is open to me and no matter where I turn I always belong."

"I enjoy the fact that at Saint Joseph the girls are empowered to be all of which women are capable. I also feel very comfortable and safe on campus and with the Saint Joseph environment in general."

"I've gained confidence throughout the years, and I am now able to speak my mind and make improvements in my immediate community."

How would you describe your experience at Saint Joseph High School?

"Being at Saint Joseph for the past two and a half years has molded me into what I am today. On my first visit to the school, I truly felt welcomed by the community of Christ-centered teachers and students. Everyone here, although often times not clearly seen, is working for God, and by seeing this Saint Joseph has helped me be a better individual for the greater society."

"Overall I could truly say that the Saint Joseph experience is a roller coaster, but it is a roller coaster that I would remember and ride again and again if I had the chance. To me Saint Joseph is another word for family. Everyone here is family, whether a teacher or student, everyone is treated with full respect and love. Though there were times when things got rough, like the heavy academic loads and the strict uniform rules, there were plenty of good times to overcome everything else."

"My Saint Joseph experience is memorable for me because I found the greatest friends here. I truly believe that I will stay friends with the people that I am friends with today. Saint Joseph teaches the importance of friendship, and because it is an all-girls school, friendship is very important. Although my friends and I are graduating this year, I feel the friendship I have built with them will not die at graduation, but continue all the days after that."

Jade Harvey

During the summer, sophomore Jade Harvey experienced the opportunity of a lifetime when she and over 300 members of the South Bay Children’s Choir traveled to New York City and sang at Carnegie Hall. Jade, who has been singing with the group for two years, began as a “choraleer” and is now a member of the concert choir which meets at El Camino College.

At Carnegie Hall, the choir sang a major work by English composer John Rutter. The group was very fortunate to have Mr. Rutter conduct the “Mass of the Children” with a full orchestra. The “Mass of the Children” was first performed in 2003 at Carnegie Hall and Mr. Rutter conducted at that time. The “Mass” is a non-liturgical piece of music divided into five movements, referred to as a missa brevis. It incorporates poetry by Thomas Ken and William Blake, and is sung in the traditional Latin and Greek Mass text.

Jade is also a member of the SJHS Show Choir and is thinking of becoming a broadcast journalist, but would also love to study music.
