The Jester softball team competed in a tough game against a tough opponent on Thursday. The girls got off to a good start, scoring 4 runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, Senior pitcher Giana Lopez allowed just one run. In the top of the second inning, the Jesters scored two more and Giana held the Lancers scoreless in the bottom of the second. After 3 innings, the score was 6-3 Jesters. Our girls scored one more run in the 4th inning.
In the fifth inning things got a bit tense. Bishop Amat scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, making it a one run game with two innings to go. Neither team scored in the 6th inning. In the top of the 7th inning, some key hits and a couple Amat errors led to 4 runs for the Jesters, making it an 11-6 ballgame and the win in sight.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Amat got a runner to 2nd on an error by the Jesters. The next batter hit a single up the middle, placing runners at first and third with nobody out. Then pitcher Giana Lopez was able to induce a ground ball to the shortstop Angelina Bebek, who held the runner at third and threw out the batter for the first out of the inning. The next batter popped out to the second baseman, Sera Dennis, and the runners had to hold. Finally, Giana induced a ground ball to first baseman Alexxis Corona, who tagged the base for the last out and the win!
This is the first league championship since 2010! Congratulations Jester Softball!
